DESIGNING FOR PEACE
MUSINGS : PRACTICES : GUIDES

When I started thinking about how to present “a peaceful space inc” in a way that would be meaningful and helpful to others, I struggled. I thought over and over again about what the right words would be, what would be the best and most “clever” format for delivering the message so that people will accept the idea, I was so focused on how people would respond to what Is would say that I had lost the purpose for saying it.  And I overlooked the fact that when people ask “what is your business” and I say, “a peaceful space” the resounding response is, “I need that”.  But what do they need? Less stress? Better sleep? Quiet? Security?

I am setting out to find those answers to “a peaceful space” means . . . because somewhere, someone will read, absorb and benefit.

Start Slowly

Our homes and the way we live in them hold a deep connection to our wellbeing. We can express ourselves in the comfort of our homes in ways we cannot express in the outer world. But much like what is happening in our external world, our inner world can be overwhelmed. With all of the “noise” in the world, it is important to create a barrier around our contemplative practice, a nurturing space to support the quiet and stillness we seek.

“Spatial Peace” is program and a design concept. Simplistic in nature, it represents the nuance of serenity design much like meditation represents the subtle value of quieting the mind.

The manager said as she said as she rushed to her meeting,  “I don’t have time to be peaceful, I have too much to do”.

To that I said, “That you have no time for peace is why you need it.”
